Administrative 2008 Outlook

Job Seeker Activity Report
Firms that require administrative professionals in order to meet their goals often have limited availability of candidates to meet their continuous demand. Ironically, revenue growth and continued success only deepens the effects of the current, strong job market for talented professionals. However, this situation varies considerably across specific administrative roles. Fortunately, Monster’s analysis of job seeker activity uncovered vital information for building a strong sourcing and hiring program for 2008 and beyond.

Key Take-Aways

Administrative professionals continue to come to Monster for employment opportunities. There are over two million administrative-oriented resumes registered in the Monster U.S. resume database, which continues to add over 3,000 new resumes per day. At the end of 2007, job candidate growth dropped slightly, primarily due to the typical seasonal slowdown. The overall applicant pool should grow in 2008, but only by a small percentage, due to slightly higher unemployment compared with the latter part of 2006 and early 2007.

Administrative job seekers are less willing to relocate. In general, Administrative job seekers are optimistic about finding work locally: About 20%, compared with 35% across all other Monster categories, are open to the possibility of moving. For the most part, those willing to relocate have more experience and are looking for higher-level positions, such as Executive Assistant.

Administrative candidates are available on a temporary, contract or project basis. Compared with many candidate pools, there are a variety of trained and experienced administrative candidates who are willing to step into a temporary, contract or project management opportunity.
