The Retail & Wholesale industry is characterized by a continuous need for qualified candidates and limited availability of candidates to meet those demands. Monster’s analysis of job seeker activity uncovered vital information for building a strong sourcing and hiring program for 2007 and beyond.

Key Take-Aways

Retail & Wholesale professionals continue to come to Monster for employment opportunities. There are over 2.4 million Retail & Wholesale resumes registered in the Monster U.S. resume database, which continues to add over 2,000 new resumes per day. In the past few years, Monster’s database of Retail & Wholesale resumes has increased substantially, yet in the past year; new growth has showed signs of a plateau. Growth is expected to remain steady through the end of 2007.

The “hot occupation” among job seekers within Retail & Wholesale is ‘makeup artist’, a loosening of the term, which dominated the greatest increase in new resumes. While many occupations are seeing a drop in growth of Retail & Wholesale candidates, the ‘makeup artist’ occupation experienced 32% growth. Merchandise assistant and security officer saw 10% and 9% growth respectively.

Retail & Wholesale candidates are available on a part-time and seasonal basis. While job seekers in corporate and managerial positions are primarily looking for permanent full-time employment, there are a variety of candidates with more general experience and training willing to step into part-time and seasonal opportunities. In fact, Retail & Wholesale job seekers continue to add over 21,000 new part-time resumes per month.
