Poised Workers and how to retain and recruit themSponsored by: With the Baby Boomer generation migrating into retirement, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a shortage of workers in the coming years. To address what is expected to become an increasingly competitive market for skilled professionals, many Human Resources managers are shifting their focus to recruiting passive candidates—those workers not actively seeking another job—whom they believe make better hires because they demonstrate greater loyalty and their passivity offers less competition for their candidacy. Monster research revealed a relatively small number of workers could be considered passive candidates, therefore, their scarcity makes them a recruiting challenge as well as a market opportunity. Recent Monster research suggests workers fall into two primary groups:
The research showed that by better understanding the attitudes of these workers, employers can develop strategies to proactively shape the loyalty of their workers and better retain the talent that exists within their company. (For further details, see Monster’s Managing Worker Loyalty report.) Closer analysis, however, suggests that some Loyalists exhibit behaviors more associated with those of Opportunists, despite their stated allegiance to their current job. Monster defines these workers as “Poised,” given that their behaviors (left unchecked) could lead to a change in their “loyal” state of mind. This Monster research is designed to help companies better understand these Poised Workers. By understanding what motivates a Poised Worker, employers can avoid losing them to an outside opportunity, while recruiters can create strategies to attract and capture this loyal worker and prime recruitment candidate.
