Retail/Wholesale Reports - Summer 2006Retail/Wholesale Job Candidates Activity ReportThe Monster Employment Index, which reached a new all-time high in June 2006, demonstrates that online recruitment activity and related job opportunities in the retail sector has slowed somewhat in recent months. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment growth in the Retail/Wholesale sector has also moderated over the summer, as has consumer spending amid high interest rates and energy prices. Nevertheless, wholesale positions have become more widely available, the Index shows, and demand in both categories has kept up well with the national growth trend over the past years. Key Take-Aways:More Retail/Wholesale candidates are looking on Monster. There are nearly 1.9 million Retail/Wholesale resumes registered in the Monster U.S. resume database which continues to grow adding over 2,100 new resumes per day. This growth will support the upcoming hiring needs as recruiters prepare to post jobs for the November and December holiday hiring season. Retail/Wholesale candidates searching for jobs are more active at the beginning of the year. On average, each month Retail/Wholesale job seekers perform over 5.3 million job searches across various U.S. locations. Also, over 80 percent more job searches are conducted Monday through Friday than during the weekend. Today’s Retail/Wholesale job seekers are more willing to step into part-time employment on Monster. While over 70 percent of Retail/Wholesale job seekers are looking for only full-time employment opportunities, over 22 percent are willing to step into either full-time or part-time opportunities. This is a 6 percent increase over 2 years prior, which is consistent with the positive job outlook. Retail/Wholesale job candidates find the Internet to be the most useful resource over other sources when looking for new job opportunities. Although many resources are used, the Internet proves to be the most useful.
